Auto Insurance

In most states, if you want to drive your own vehicle, you must be insured.

Car insurance coverage is designed to help financially cover potential auto-related damages, loss or injuries.  It protects you, your passsengers, fellow drivers, pedestrians, other people's property and your car.  It may also cover the costs of repairing or replacing your vehicle if it is damaged or stolen.

Definitions of Coverages:

Deductible is the portion of a covered loss that you agree to pay before the insurance company becomes responsible for payment under the policy.  (A larger deductible usually means a lower premium.)

Liability Insurance coverage helps you protect you and your family against financial loss arising from liability associated with bodily injury or property damage of another due to an accident you cause.

Bodily Injury coverage covers the expenses associated with other people's injuries or death for which you are legally responsible.  Coverage includes: medical expenses, loss of income and paid and suffering

Property Damage covers your liability for damaging another person's personal property, such as auto, house or fence.

Collision Coverage covers the damage to your vehicle resulting from a collision with another vehicle or object.

Comprehensive Coverage protects your investment in your vehicle by covering losses to the car resulting from fire, theft, falling objects, riots, storms earthquakes, floods and collision with an animal

Medical Payments coverage pays medical bills and funeral expenses for you or a passenger injured in an accident while riding in your vehicle.  Coverage extends to you or a family member when riding as a passenger in someone else's vehicle or when struck by a vehicle when on foot.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage covers you, insured members of your household and your passengers in an accident with a motorist who has on insurance or is underinsured.  It also provides coverage if you are hit by a hit-and-run driver and applies to you and the insured members of your household, even as a pedestrian.  Coverage includes: payment of medical costs, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Fault or No-Fault:

In a no-fault state, your own insurance company indemnifies you for any loss or injuries to you, no matter who causes the accident.  No fault can also limit your right to sue to recover damages.  Personal Injury Protection  (PIP) is generally required in no-fault states.  PIP covers a broader range of medical costs and can also cover lost wages and the replacement of the services of someone injured in a covered accident.

In states other than no-fault, the person at fault in the accident pays and may be indemnified by the insurance company.  Your right to sue is not restricted (nor is the other party's right to sue you)
